How did you get interested in cosplay?
When I was browsing google pictures for the anime character Haruhi Suzumiya, I found cosplay photos of Kipi, an Asian cosplayer. Her photos inspired me to cosplay, and when I realized there was a local convention in my town, I decided to try it out.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I am inspired by the anime and manga that I'm interested in. Other cosplayers also inspire me with their beautiful costumes and photos!
What is your opinion on the cosplay community, internationally?
I think the cosplay community as a whole is very encouraging and welcoming. Cosplayers in different countries focus on different aspects of cosplay. With social media around, it's very easy to follow cosplayers from around the world and see everyone's works. I think US cosplayers focus more on costume construction and having fun, while Asian cosplayers focus more on resembling the character and photography. Because of this slight difference, there are some misunderstandings where one group of cosplayers will criticize another because of the different focuses.
When are you happy with a photo?
I'm happy with a photo when it is in focus and it evokes a certain feeling.
What are the differences/similarities between cosplay and historical reenactment?
Both involve people who are dressed up as a different person, possibly even from a different world, pretending to be someone they are not. The difference is that historical reenactment involves people from the past that lived in our world, while cosplay involves people that may live in a fictional world.
